Description

Exploring Intercultural Awareness, Dialogue and Competence Series

Would you like to learn how to better understand other cultures? Would you like to know how to build better bridges? If yes, then we invite you to join us during our Intercultural competence training series this summer. This is a 3-part training where we will be discussing Intercultural Awareness, Intercultural Dialogue, and Intercultural Competence. With this training series, we hope to expand on your intercultural talents and share the knowledge, skills, and behavior necessary to function effectively and appropriately in intercultural environments in order to have better and fruitful relationships in a globalized school and workplace.

This series will be taking place on Friday July 29th, Friday, August 5th, and Friday, August 12th. In order to have this three-event series count towards your CIRTL certification, participants must attend all three events since they are related to one another. This event will not be recorded, nor broadcasted.

Module 1 - Intercultural Awareness - Friday, July 29

Module 2 - Intercultural Dialogue - Friday, August 5

Module 3 - Intercultural Competence - Friday, August 12

About our speaker:

Diane Zeenny Ghorayeb was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and after the Civil War in Lebanon started in 1975, went on to live for 22 years in Paris, France. In 2006, she brought all of these varied aspects of her experience with her to be "Re-born in the U.S.A" where she has successfully combined them into a dynamic hybrid identity. After working in translation for several years, Diane joined the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in 2016. Her passion is connecting meaningfully with others and mining shared insights gleaned from multiple perspectives and backgrounds. She recently obtained her Master of Arts in Intercultural Communication from UMBC.
