Description
The mission of GEARS is to provide a platform for students to showcase their creative achievements, present research accomplishments, and share their experiences with peers. GEARS aims to provide a friendly atmosphere to promote collaboration, improve communication skills, and to celebrate the hard work of UMBC graduate students.
Noteworthy events for this year's symposium include:
Achievement Visuals: Poster, Artwork, Videos, Showcases and More!
Achievement Visuals will consist of one hour sessions in which students exhibit their work in various forms. During this time, attendees will be allowed to explore and discover the diverse research projects taking place in the Graduate School.
3 Minute-Thesis
Competition
Three Minute Thesis is an International Research Communication Competition. It allows the students to develop many different skill sets necessary for employment and careers, skills training, research communication, and gain a new perspective on their Research project.
The Gritty Talks
A short TED-like talk for Graduate students. The Gritty Talks will be a 5 to 7 minutes talk about any open-ideas. Prizes will be awarded.
Campus Resource Fair
The graduate students can [re]familiarize themselves, ask questions, receive information,etc with the various resources available at UMBC.

Interview Skills Workshop by Susan Hindle
Susan is the Assistant Director, Internships and Employment.
Susan brings more than 10 years of experience in career development in higher education. She has expertise in assisting individuals in all phases of the career development process.
